| Alhaurin
offers three golf courses -- an 18 hole par 72 course designed
by Seve Ballesteros, a nine hole par 3 course bordered by a
beautiful lake, and an 18 hole junior course. On the main par 72
course challenging holes and lush green fairways will test any
level of skill. As it is situated between Mijas and Coín in the
Sierra de Mijas, you get to enjoy the majestic views of
mountains to the north and Africa and the Mediterranean to the
south. |
|
Almenara
only opened in 1999 and designed by Dave Thomas this relatively
new course has already earned itself a promising name for the
future. This is a 27 hole course located between Valderrama and
San Roque with tournament standard greens. One of our all time
favourites here, the course also offers an on-site four star
hotel. |
|
Anoreta
A course which suits all players, demanding from the first tee
but with easy-to-play fairways, fast and rolling greens, some of
which are well protected by bunkers and water obstacles on the
course. An all round varied and pleasant course |
|
Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernhard Von Limburger in
1967.The course is flat with wide fairways surrounded by tall
pines and luxurious vegetation.
Atalaya
Designed by Bernard von Limburger Atalaya golf has two 18 hole
courses - the old and new. The old course was inaugurated in
1968 and designed by Bernard von Limburger. The course features
wide fairways and fast elevated greens. The positioning of the
tees make it suitable for players of all levels.
The new course opened in 1990 designed by Paul Krings. This
course proves more difficult as your tee shots have to be
accurate. |
|
Cabopino Golf
Opened in April 2001, Cabopino Golf Club is a scenic course
5,170 metres long. It has three par 3s, two par 5s and 13 par 4s
with well designed lakes affecting four holes. High handicappers
will have to use all clubs in their bag and low handicappers
will have to take risks if they want good results. The greens
are large and kept in excellent condition. |
|
Calanova Golf Club is situated in the Mijas golf valley,
between the sea and the Mijas mountains.
It has some extraordinary landscape views, including the sea and
La Cala de Mijas mountains, at nearly every hole. There are a
variety of fairways layouts. All of them are wide in the ball
drop areas and clear, so that the player can see the obstacles
before hitting the ball. This course is one of the latest
additions to the Costa Del Sol.
Tees are spread in different platforms, providing the players
the possibility of playing the course with a huge variety of
distances. This number of platforms will keep tees always in
excellent conditions. Calanova offers 18 holes of golf designed
to be enjoyable and challenging at the same time. There is only
a temporary clubhouse which offers privileged views from the
terraces towards the ocean and the “Sierra de Mijas”.
In short, it is a golf course with a great personality, in a
unique location, and which satisfies the highest demands of the
experienced player, while being friendly to the style of play of
the average player. |
|
El
Chaparral
The course consists of 18 holes situated in one of the most
privileged settings on the Costa del Sol. Close to the sea –
only 700 metres from the beach – surrounded by a forest of pine
trees, El Chaparral offers what every golfer is looking for –
tranquillity. Designed by Pepe Gancedo. |
|
El
Paraiso Golf
Designed by Gary Player in 1974 this 18 hole course is suitable
for all handicaps. Not a particularly tight course but you need
to drive the ball well and try to watch out for the small brooks
along the way. There are hidden streams and wide fairways, good
par 3s of varying distances and the most popular 6th hole. |
|
Estepona Golf
Opened in 1989 this 18 holes course, was designed by Jose Luis
Lopez, who adapted his design to the undulating terrain. The
course is relatively short but due to its ups and downs we found
it advisable to rent a buggy.
Young palm trees, eucalyptus and wild olive trees, wind the
fairways of the course. Holes 6, 10, and 11 offered a special
attractiveness because of their lakes and bunkers. Hole three,
known as "the ski run" swoops downhill forming several tiers and
the unsighted drive should bear left, leaving a chance to reach
green with the second shot.. |
|
Flamingos Golf
Designer Antonio Garcia Garrido has taken into consideration
each and every metre of this 5883 metre course. Each hole is
defined by its own type of tree whether cypress, orange or
olive.
Its a challenging and demanding course especially over the front
nine. We found the 10th hole (par 4) tried us the most, and
required a calculated tee shot to the fairway to set us up with
a chance of playing over the water and reaching the green. Some
of the tees were elevated and afforded us panoramic views of the
Mediterranean. |
|
Guadalhorce
Designed by Kosti Kuronen, this 18 hole golf course offers a
European style front nine with rolling terraind and tricky
greens, whilst the back nine is more American offering lakes and
raised greens. |
|
Guadalmina Golf
Two courses, of 18 holes, and a further 9 holes. North and South
courses provide separate styles of challenges. The South course
being the more difficult of the two.
The North course is a little gentler but still challenges the
golfer with its water hazards. Designed by Javier Arana and
Follco Nardi |
|
La Cala Golf
The two golf courses at La Cala known as north and south are
main attraction of the resort. Both La Cala North (Par 73) and
La Cala South (Par 72) have been designed by the North American
architect Cabell B. Robinson.
In a difficult and winding area, as Robinson says, "the terrain
for the La Cala course made it my most challenging course
construction project". In addition are the clubhouse with its
bar and pro shop, and the prestigious David Leadbetter Golf
Academy, with a large driving range, surrounded by a Par 3
course. In the near future, another 18 holes are to be added to
the resort facilities. |
|
La
Duquesa
Designed by Trent Jones this is a demanding course and not one
for the faint hearted. The front nine starts off in a westerly
direction and a double back to finish on a long par five. The
course offers magnificent views over the Mediterranean and
requires complete concentration straight drives and ìron nerve
putting. |
|
La
Quinta Golf
Consisting of 27 holes designed by Garcia Garrido and Manuel
Pinero and situated in the Marbella this course offers
panoramice views of the Marbella Valley. La Quinta Golf required
stamina and accuracy as its quite a hilly course lined with
trees and just to test your skill has a few shallow yet large
sand traps along the fairway. |
|
Lauro Golf
Situated adjacent to the protected forest of the Sierra de Mijas
Lauro golf offers you beautiful views. Its parkland layout has
been carefully levelled and many of the fairways cut between
lines of olive trees. A challenging course with a number of
formidable water hazards and deceptive holes, in particular the
4th, where a steep slope up to the green makes the pin seem
closer than it really is. |
|
Los Arqueros Golf
Set amongst the Ronda hills, Los Arqueros is just a short drive
from San Pedro de Alcantara and Puerto Banus and has lovely
scenic views all the way down to the Mediterranean. This is one
of the most tranquil and stunning settings to be found on the
coast. Accuracy and direction rather than length are the key
factors in producing a good round. It was the first Costa del
Sol course designed by Seve Ballesteros and opened in 1991, a
challenge to all levels of player. The atmosphere at the club is
both friendly and welcoming |
|
Los Naranjos Golf
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, this course carries his
signature elevated tee boxes and large undulating greens.
The course is renown for the difference between the front and
back nine. The former you play wide sweeping fairways, whilst
the back nine is tigher being surrounded by orange trees - hence
the name. The course is far from easy and would give a stiff
challenge to any level of golfer. The most difficult hole, by
far, is the 18th which is a par 5. |
|
Marbella Golf Club
Designed by Robert Trent Jones. This is an 18 hjole, par 72
situated at the entrance to Marbella |
|
Mijas Golf
Two of the busiest and most popular golf courses on the Costa
del Sol. Both 18 hole courses were designed by Robert Trent
Jones. Golfers will enjoy the gentle undulating fairways and the
general impression of wide open space on the two courses. Exotic
Araucalia pines and perfumed jacaranda line the fairways at Los
Lagos, and olive trees -of course - are in abundance on Los
Olivos. Los Lagos is the longer of the two at 6404 metres and it
is named after its seven thirsty water hazards. Its greens are
wide but contoured and well protected bunkers. Los Olivos, at
6009 metres is a tighter challenge than Los Lagos. It has water
traps, twisted bunkers and quick greens with subtle slopes.
|
|
Miraflores Golf
Opened for play in 1990 this course follows the gentle contours
of the Sierra Mijas foothills. The fairways and greens are well
kept in lush splendour throughout the year and water is supplied
from three artificial ponds which come into play on four holes.
Miraflores offers a Golf Academy with tuition for everyone. |
|
Monte Mayor Golf
The most extravagant course in the whole region and possibly in
the whole of Spain. Visitors either love or hate this baroque
masterpiece laid out through rocks, gorges and amidst wild
vegetation in 1989 by the genial Pepe Gancedo. Target golf with
fairly lenient local rules that favour the brave; any lost ball
is considered to be in a side water hazard. |
|
Parador
Designed by Scottish architect Tom Simpson, famous for his
golfing layouts at Turnberry and Muirfield, this is the the
Costa del Sols oldest course. The course is a part links with
seawater lagoons, and a part parkland with the the fairways
forming avenues between the trees that are home to flocks of
colourful parakeets. The course measures 6024 metres in length
and is suitable for players of all levels of ability, though
some holes present a real challenge. At the 12th, for example, a
perfect drive is required in order to reach the green in two and
avoid the eucalyptos grove on the right. |
|
Rio Real
Designed by Javier Arana, in 1965, this 18 hole par 72 golf
course is situated in a beautiful valley between the
Mediterranean Sea and the mountains with the Real river crosses
the course several times. Now, this course is not an easy one
even though the layout is mainly flat. For example, to negotiate
the eleventh hole, your tee shot must cross a ravine onto the
fairway and then there`s a stream to cross before you even reach
the green. |
|
Santa Clara Golf
Designed by Enrique Canales Busquet, this course challenges all
levels of golf. The well manicured front nine has two par 3s, 6
par 4s, and one par 5.
The back nine is longer with two par3s,
five par 4s and two par 5s. Santa Clara has earned itself a
reputation for being one of the finest golf courses along the
Costa del Sol. |
|
Santa Maria Golf
Designed by Antonio García Garrido.
Santa Maria Golf originally opened as a nine-hole in 1991 with
the second nine opening five years later. Since then Santa Maria
Golf has deservedly matured into one of the finest along the
Costa del Sol. The course itself is challenging with views over
the mediteranean. |
|
Santana Golf Club
Designed by Cabell B. Robinson, this new course for 2004 is
situated between Fuengirola and Marbella. This is a par 72 18
hole course offering breathtaking views and manicured greens.
Water bunkers are only on the 15th, 16th and 18th only - some of
you may be happy to know! |
|
San Roque Golf, The Old Course
Specially noted for its huge bunkers San Roque Golf Course was
designed by Dave Thomas. This is serious golf at its most
testing!! Opened in 1990, it plays very long off the back tees,
especially on the front nine. To play, bring all your clubs -
you`ll need them. The front nine has tight fairways, the back
nine opens out and this is where the water comes into play. |
|
Sotogrande
Opened in 1964, Sotogrande still ranks amongst the top ten
courses in Europe.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones it is primarily a private club,
however green fee paying visitors are welcome although we do
advise to book in advance. Sotogrande boasts well established
vegetation with pine, cork oaks, eucalyptus and palm trees.
Water hazards play an important |
|
Torrequebrada
Since it first opened in 1976 this Pepe Gancedo masterpiece has
proven to be one of the most popular courses on the Costa del
Golf. Here, the tee shot is of prime importance. A wild drive
and all may be lost as trees, woods, rough, bunkers and water
are all very much to the fore. Should you be tempted to confuse
short length with ease of play, the third hole - only 80 metres
to a long and narrow contoured green - will soon change your
mind. |
|
Valderrama
Hosted the Ryder cup in 1997, the first nine editions of the
Volve Masters, and the first World Golf Championships - the
American Espress Championship in 1999 and the second in 2000.
Every hole is championship standard.
But the real treat is that its so carefully designed and
maintained that all players can enjoy this spectacular course.
The tees are differentiated not just by the obvious distance but
by the careful siting. |
